Spirit Lutheran - Why "God's Work. Our Hands." Matters!

Spirit Lutheran: what a great new name to go with all that is to come!  On Sunday, August 16 our congregation will come together as one to join in service to our community, our world, and our congregation's homebound.   The most recent Seeds for the Parish (an ELCA Resource Paper for congregations) quoted a member from St. Andrew Lutheran Church in Whittier, California who said after participating in a 2014 "God's Work. Our Hands." Sunday in his congregation, "From the formation of a planning team to donations of school supplies and monetary gifts - and finally the weekend of assembling, packing, cutting and tying and delivering - I witnessed our congregation serve together in ways I have not seen before. Through it all, we grew closer to one another".

Many said much the same at the end of our event last year.  What a great way for all of us to get even better acquainted with one another while we serve!

New to our event this year, in response to member requests, is a team called "Repair & Renew Crew".  We need not only team members who will do small jobs like changing light bulbs or other safety features in our members' homes, but we need all of you to let us know where there are members who might need more ambitious projects to make their homes more efficient and safer, even including a ramp for easier accessibility.  We're hoping that this team might work ahead of time, if needed, so that on August 16th, when we have only about an hour to serve, larger projects would already be pre-fabricated and the hour would be used to install them.  If you know a homebound member in our congregation who would benefit from our service, please contact Robbie Joern, Mission & Outreach Coordinator, with the name, address and service we could provide to them.  Her email address is rjoern@first-lutheran.org and cell phone number is 715.563.0885.  Let's show some SPIRIT in making this year's "God's Work. Our Hands." the best-ever!
