Everything for Christmas

Can you believe that there's actually a website to help Christmas well-wishers know what to say to their family and friends as they send Christmas cards this time of year?  Here are the top five suggestions:

  1. May your Christmas be filled with lots of happiness, peace and love... ooh and lots of presents :)
  2. If you're feeling warm today, it's from all the love we're sending your way. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
  3. Love, joy and peace are the ingredients for a wonderful Christmas. We hope you find them all festive season. Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New year!
  4. Wishing you a very Merry Christmas! May it bring you joy, happiness and everything else you deserve.
  5. It's the time of eggnog, candles, cakes, songs, reindeer, carols, laughter - and most importantly LOVE. Merry Christmas.

Several years ago I received a Christmas card with this message: "This Christmas, I wish you Jesus." On the inside it read: "Isn't nice to have everything!"

I think that pretty much says it all! It's easy to feel that we have devolved the meaning of Christmas and cheapened it and made it into a season of Hallmark moments and sentiments absent of the real implications of what the birth of Jesus means. With the gift of Jesus, we are indeed given   everything.  "For unto you is born this day in the city of David, a Savior, which is Christ, the Lord."  That was the Christmas greeting that the angels delivered on that night in Bethlehem so many years ago. And that's still the greeting given to us over 2000 years later.

You have been given a Savior! And for this reason, we can be filled with joy, peace and consolation.  All that we hoped for has been fulfilled in the person of the Christ Child.  No matter who you are…in the midst of current challenges and concerns, joys and celebrations, the love of God the Father is made manifest to us in the wonderful gift of His Son, Jesus. With the angels in Bethlehem, we can sing: "Glory to God in the highest and peace to God's people on earth!"

This Christmas, I wish you Jesus. Isn't nice to have everything!
