Called to Serve

Through Called to Serve, members of First Lutheran Church commit to actively participate in worship. This ministry is a GREAT way to become familiar with all the faces in our congregation, while serving Christ and one another. You can sign up to serve on the Called to Serve clipboard in the church office, or in the pews on Sunday morning as the board is passed around.

The many opportunities to serve include:

called to serve first contact

First Contact

Ensure each person is greeted upon arrival for worship and thanked when leaving. This includes walking people from vehicles in the parking lot and back to vehicles after worship. Red vests are worn to identify those participating in First Contact.

called to serve welcome table

Welcome Table

Greet people once they are inside the building. Welcome Table volunteers meet new people, collect contact information, introduce guests to other congregational members, and direct or escort them to their desired destinations.

called to serve worship assistant

Worship Assistant (Usher)

Greet people coming to worship, hand out worship materials, collect the offering, and direct worshippers during communion. Worship Assistants also help clean up around the pews after worship.

Communion Server

Serve communion to the congregation during worship and bless children during the distribution of communion.

Multimedia

Assist Don Hodgins, Director of Worship Technology, with operating video cameras or computer projection during worship. Easy to learn on-the-job training is provided for each task.

Coffee Server

A ministry of hospitality which allows others to visit and enjoy time together in fellowship. Make coffee, set up the refreshments table, and clean up afterwards.

Bulletin Deliverer

Deliver bulletins to First Lutheran members currently in local hospitals, nursing homes, and rehab facilities who are unable to worship with us in person.
